Type of Cancer: Prostate
Years of Survivorship: Less than 1 Year
I’m Tom Boehling and was diagnosed with prostate cancer in November 2016. Proactively caring for my health has always been important because prostate cancer runs in my family. My prostate was not enlarged, the shape was normal and PSA score was moderate yet the cancer was very aggressive. The sharp increase in my PSA score from the previous year was the indicator that something was not right. The day I was told of my cancer I felt isolated and devoid of logical thought. With love and support my family and friends helped provide the bridge from isolation to action. I learned what I could, asked questions and sought medical advice from many professionals. Never feel bad about getting a second opinion. Please be an advocate of concern, care and compassion. Ask the men in your life to be proactive, get their prostate exam and PSA test so that they have a baseline for future reference.
